Reflecting on the Square

Reflecting on the Square

New 2026 original acrylic and texture on 30 x 40" canvas painting by Shaun Kinley depicting the new Sherwin Williams building reflecting Key Tower on Town Square with the Soldiers & Sailors Monument. The original painting is still available. $4900.

About the Painting

The painting looks onto Cleveland’s Public Square where multiple eras of the city meet at once. The new Sherwin-Williams headquarters rises in glass, reflecting Key Tower, while the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Monument stands in the foreground, unchanged.

The work is part of an ongoing exploration of perspective, how what we see is shaped by where we stand. Here, the newest structure in the city skyline holds the image of one that came before it, while the monument remains fixed, marking a much earlier point in time.
These elements aren’t arranged, they simply coexist. Glass carries reflection. Stone holds memory. The view shifts depending on position but the presence of each remains.
It captures the relationship between what is built, what is reflected, and what endures, each holding its position from the vantage point.

The image for "Reflecting on Public Square" was drawn onto the canvas from an original photograph I look early in 2026, on the same day as several other photographs of downtown structures that will be part of the series, including "Historic Cleveland Trust Rotunda Window."
